Self Help Africa StrEATfest charity event . New Yorkers aim to get water flowing in West Africa later this year -and thousands will get a chance to really dine out on May 14th, when restaurants and bars will move their tables and chairs onto the street for charity.
Organized by the restaurants and bars along Stone Street, the StrEATfest charity event is now in its fourth year. The party begins at noon on May 14th and the cobbled pedestrian street will be filled with tables from all the participating businesses.
This year, as part of the festival, each establishment will be showcasing a specially designed tasting menu to give a flavor of what each eatery provides. These specials range from $5-$10 and include street favorites such as lobster mac ‘n’ cheese from Stone St Tavern, the famous Mad Dog & Beans guacamole and Spicy Mexican Mango, Beckett’s tasty crab cakes and oysters, and the Dubliner’s pulled pork Mac and Cheese. Make sure to grab a bratwurst sandwich from Biergarten or a delicious Tilapia sandwich from Waterstone Grill, and of course stop by Ulysses legendary raw bar filled with oysters and shrimp cocktail…. and many more tasty delights!
Shoutout to our friends over at @TastyPursuits
UPDATE: We just got back. The blueberry one was annoyingly too sweet but hey, it’s free. Continue reading

We are spoiled by the amazing Thai food in the outer boroughs, namely Queens. Therefore, we know better than to award a 5 star distinction to one of the ‘best of the worst’ Thai places in Manhattan. Pronounced ‘Ah-sah-hee’, this Brazilian superfruit is said (but not proven) to have many health benefits due to its anti-aging and weight loss properties. High in anti-oxidants, anthocyanins and flavanoids, acai is said to combat free radicals to give you a youthful glow. This berry has appeared in vitamin form as well as in cosmetics, sorbets even. Acai can even be found in liquor form via VeeV Spirits. A lazy alternative would be a prepackaged Zola drink if you are in a hurry. After experimenting with many recipes, Jeff found the balance of this kickass smoothie recipe to be just right. Continue reading
