5 Summer Smoothie Flavor Trends

No, the crappy drink they call smoothies at McD’s don’t count. We were unamused by those. Instead, check out our Ultimate (and timeless) Kickass Smoothie or if you are feeling trendy, check out what the folks at The Family Kitchen have to say about 5 fruits you should be using of this Summer. If you haven’t invested in a VitaMix, you might want to do so. Our Magic Bullet expired after 5yrs of heavy usage and gave us an excuse to get one. At 2 HP, one of our coworkers told us, “Your blender has more horsepower than my lawnmower”. True story.

Event – Tastes: Meatpacking meets Chelsea JUN4 – we’ll be there

RECAP: Today a heap of Culinary Talent took over the Cobblestone Streets of the Meatpacking District by storm. We checked out all the action including the merchandise, Old Navy van, as well as stage performances by a young talent. The event lasted from 11:30am-3:00pm, with the ticket format much like Taste of TriBeCa, except here you get 6 tastes instead of 5 for $35. Beverages were $2 and not inclusive. We didn’t get to try everything, but two of our favorites included Spice Market’s Green Tea Granita w/ red currant mousse as well as Pastis’s Chicken Liver Foie Gras Mousse w/ pickled red onions. Many were on hand to partake in the festivities as blue skies provided for the perfect backdrop to some of NYC’s great restaurants. Coupled with a great cause, good times were had by all. Ranking the nation’s 25 top-earning chefs

Thx to TheDailyMeal for this…

How much money do chefs make? According to Nation’s Restaurant News, the leading U.S. food-service trade magazine, the average annual salary for an executive chef at a stand-alone restaurant in 2010 was $71,063. All together, now: Do you think that’s what Mario Batali takes home? Do you reckon that’s how many bucks Guy Fieri pays taxes on each year? Yeah, sure.

The rules are different for celebrity chefs — first of all, simply because they’re celebrities and hence demand the big bucks, but also because, without exception, the most financially successful ones do lots of things at once. In fact — spoiler alert — very few of them ever actually cook in their own kitchens anymore. They’re far too busy thinking up and launching new restaurants (and even, like Charlie Palmer, hotels), writing cookbooks, developing (or lending their names to) products of various kinds, and of course appearing on TV… The most successful chefs in America aren’t just chefs — they’re entrepreneurs, they’re brands. Sometimes they’re virtually whole industries. Being Wolfgang Puck, Tom Colicchio, or José Andrés isn’t just a job: It’s a way of life.

Now without further delay, enjoy the slideshow..
