When any New York restaurant reaches the five year milestone a huge party is in store, so we’re throwing a rager! Expect to see us roasting a Whole Pig while you dance your #$$ off to live Vallenato, music performed by our special guest band: Very Be Careful! Coming straight from L.A. these guys know how to get down, and everyone who came out to see them play last summer at Palo Santo can vouch for that.
Celebrate with us and see the band for free. There’s no cover. We’re throwing this shindig to thank you for your support, because that is what has gotten us this far. Tell your friends. Bring the family. It’s a whole pig BBQ and everyone is invited!

Located at the center of the traditionally Jewish immigrant neighborhood in the East Village-meets-Lower East Side, Octavia’s Porch serves up classic Jewish dishes with a fresh global twist. The objective of acclaimed chef Nikki Cascone — you may recognize her from 24 Prince and Bravo’s Top Chef — and The Printz Group at Octavia’s Porch is to celebrate the passing down of Jewish traditions through culture and food. This time around, you’re going to get a taste of the behind-the-scenes action. Enjoy the fruits of Cascone’s labor from start to finish, literally. Take a cooking class on the premise and watch as this kitchen ace shows you how to prepare and execute two Octavia’s Porch dishes. Past demos included shrimp and quinoa salad, seared wild Atlantic salmon with cucumber and cauliflower puree, and sesame ice cream with chocolate matzoh. The cuisine you’ll be schooled on not only draws from a Jewish heritage but from all corners of the world (Spain, Italy, Northern Africa, and South America). Don’t worry about mastering the meal the first time, as you’ll be provided with take-home recipe cards to play hostess-in-training at your next dinner party. If you’re planning to stay awhile, explore the menu and treat yourself (with $10 off your bill) to an evening at Octavia’s. One word to sum up this experience? Yum.

This Memorial Day weekend, get VIP access to the most awesomely non-romantic picnic of all time: Brewers’ PicNyc, a two-day takeover of Governors Island by the Pig Island/Meatopia guys, bringing together dozens of craft breweries — from Brooklyn to Warrenville, IL’s Two Brothers – plus a smorgasbord of street food (holla back, Treat Truck) and live ukulele and bluegrass music on historic Colonels’ Row. Granted, The Colonel probably didn’t do a lot of rowing after eating all that fried chicken, but still, live music! Continue reading
UPDATE: We just got back. The blueberry one was annoyingly too sweet but hey, it’s free. Continue reading

Starting MAR8, Toloache Taqueria launched Tolo Taco Tuesdays (whew, that’s a lot of alliteration). The Financial District spot dishes out $2 tacos from noon to 5 PM, and the deal will be available every Tuesday going forward. Eating way too many tacos because they’re so cheap sounds like a great way to get through the early-week blues (83 Maiden Lane; 212-809-9800).
Thanks to the lovely folks at Zagat for this. Want to nab a free cookbook? Author Giuliano Bugialli will be on site at the Azure building on January 19 to sign copies of his book, Foods of Naples and Campania. The event runs from 5:30–7 PM and the first 75 guests to show up will receive a free signed copy. Not too shabby, right? If that’s not enough to get you up there, cocktails and snacks will also be served (333 East 91 St.).
