Event – Bubby’s Brooklyn Pie Social SEP25

Join the pie community! Pie bakers of all skill levels are invited to participate in the 8th Annual Brooklyn Pie Social hosted by Bubby’s, One Main St., DUMBO, the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 25, as a benefit for New York City public schools.

Main Street in Brooklyn will overflow with a wonderful assortment of pies baked by local bakers. Bubby’s also invites you to bring a pie to share and promises not a crumb of pie will be left.

Last year 80 bakers showed up to present their pies, and more than 300 people showed up to eat them. Your $5 entry fee and at least one homemade pie entitle you to five free tasting tickets (you can share them, and there is plenty to share) and a big blue ribbon. This is a social, not a contest, and organizers encourage all kinds of baking styles and all kinds of bakers. The community is invited to celebrate pie in all its varied glory.

Bakers should report at 11:30 a.m. for check-in and free coffee. Volunteers (students from the High School of Food and Finance) will circulate to help bakers so that they can taste and roam the social.

Bring pies that don’t need refrigeration (cream, ice cream and custard pies are discouraged) because they can’t withstand four hours of sun and are likely to spoil outside on a warm day. The organizers encourage savory pies as well as dessert pies, and would also like young bakers to participate.

Sign up now and be a part of the pie. Contact Dani Finkel at dani@bubbys.com or call (646) 338-0422.

Event – Cafe de La Esquina Friends & Family AUG2-6, Grand Opening AUG8 – we’ll be there

RECAP: We checked out La Esquina’s new outpost in Williamsburg. We had a chance to try a couple of cocktails and 4 desserts there, the flourless chocolate cake w/ espresso and cinnamon ice cream being our favorite. The staff was amicable and eager to please, leaving us with a Friends & Family feedback form to fill out after our experience. Pichet Ong will be consulting on desserts.

Thanks to TONY for this…

Nolita’s Mexican hot spot brings its tacos and tortas to Williamsburg with Café de la Esquina at Wythe Diner on August 8. Like the Manhattan original, this outpost is divided into distinct areas, including a takeout taqueria in front, an outdoor garden and a classic diner with brown booths. Retire to the candlelit backroom, featuring dark wood tables and mirrors painted with Mexican-style murals, for chef Akhtar Nawab’s menu of more refined plates, like chile de árbol–braised-brisket taquitos with pickled cabbage and gaujillo chili. You’ll also find the outfit’s signature dishes, including fish tacos, chicken tortilla soup, and grilled corn with lime mayo, chili and cotija cheese. Drinkers can choose from a selection of 100 sipping tequilas and mezcals, such as Don Julio 1800 Coleccion, Del Maguey Pechuga and Casa Noble Crystal. 225 Wythe Ave between North 3rd St and Metropolitan Ave, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (esquinabk.com) MORE INFO AND VIDEO FROM THE FEAST

Event – Free Mister Softee and Body Chocolate by Babeland JUN29

Thx to NYStreetFood for this…

Mister Softee is not the first thing you want to associate with sex (although the logo above can look vaguely like a sex toy if you squint enough).

Despite the unfortunate connotation, the good folks at the Babeland sex shop and toy designer Jimmyjane will have a Mister Softee truck in front of their Soho and Brooklyn stores today – and the ice cream is free.

Not only is the ice cream free, but so is the edible body chocolate they are giving out to put on top of the ice cream!  They say it goes especially well with soft ice cream.

L: Ma Peche’s Pork Belly & Beef Banh Mi, R: CerTe’s Lobster Hot Dog w/ potatoes, lobster salt

RECAP: No, even the rain couldn’t stop the Foodgasm. On hand were many, but our favorites included the Ma Peche Pork Belly & Beef Banh Mi and the Lobster Hot Dog from CerTe. Let’s not forget washing it all down with some Kelvin Slush then heading over to Miss Softee for some soft serve. We were indifferent about Eddie’s Pizza Truck (cardboard crust) as well as Wafels & Dinges (undercooked). Honorable mention was the amazing roti that Biryani Cart used in their Kati Rolls, as well as the amazing 3 Chili Sauce from El Rey Del Sabor. PICS HERE | MORE COVERAGE HERE

Heart Gallery NYC Volunteer Appreciation Dinner – Chef donation needed

Laurie’s doing God’s work! Please reach out if you can help donate food for a Volunteer Dinner! It’s all about Good Karma!  Contact Us

Thank you so much for your past support of the Heart Gallery.
The Heart Gallery is doing well, and we are closing up the Brooklyn Exhibit at Atlantic Terminal, where the recruitment table generated over 500 inquiries from prospective adoptive/foster families and mentors for the kids.

Our recruitment team@ Atlantic Terminal was made up of staff and loyal volunteers, and they did an amazing job!
We want to thank the team, especially the volunteers, for their dedication and hard work, and I was thinking about having them attend a special dinner, where we would acknowledge their support.

I was wondering if you knew of any restaurant, or caterer who might be interested in putting together a nice dinner for these wonderful folks. The number is around 20 people; our non profit budget is non existent to very small for this event, but this could be a good opportunity for an emerging chef/restaurant/caterer to gain recognition as we could acknowledge their support on our website, and on posters at our well trafficked venues throughout the five boroughs.

We could also acknowledge their support in our upcoming newsletter, which is distributed to over 5,000, and could offer professional photos of their dishes and the event for their websites/blogs or portfolios.

Please let me know if you have any ideas…

And thanks so much for your time and consideration!!!

Warmest regards,
Laurie
